February is "GO RED for WOMEN". This initiative highlights cardiovascular (heart) disease in women. This month, Advocating for My Uterus (AFMU) wants to highlight five facts related to heart disease:
1. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) kills women more than all types of cancer*
2. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) kills more than 50,000 black women annually*
3. The risk of women having a heart attack or developing heart disease greaterly increases during 10 years after menopause*
4. Women's heart attack symptoms differ significantly from men and is usually unrelated to heart pain*
5. Women are less likely to receive bystander CPR because rescuers think it may look inappropriate*
*All facts are from Go Red for Women and/or American Heart Association*
Let's continue to educate ourselves, our loved ones, and our community. Let's make a commitment to healthy and 'whole' lives.
